Caroline was commissioned to design costumes for the UK premiere of The Sound of a Voice by Philip Glass with libretto by David Henry Hwang. The work was staged during Grimeborn, the Arcola’s annual festival of alternative opera, and directed by Andrea Ferran.
From the isolation of a mythic forest to the buzzing Tokyo metropolis, The Sound of a Voice weaves together two stories of Modern Japan. Haunted by the ghosts of the past, two couples try to free themselves from a lifetime of longing and loss.
