Caroline Collinge’s A Picture Unfolds was the first in a new collaboration between galleries TROVE, Birmingham and Minnie Weisz Studio, London. The show drew upon the history of the A-Z and its maker as well as paper folding as a textile technique in her first solo show.
The London A-Z set the scene for this capriccio: a paper architectural fantasy of the city streets. Fact, mythology and fantastical combinations of origami, costume and architectural elements to recreate the story of the London A–Z.
Fragments of the life of Phyllis Pearsall who created the A-Z were literally woven into the exhibition. Paper maps of London and paper materials were folded, cut & stitched into textiles, objects, costumes, collages and sculptural installations at a variety of scales, from the minute to the monumental.
